Four seasons in one day, presented by Paul Flood, Portfolio Manager, BNY Mellon

2022 was a year that many may wish to forget with enough “once in 200 year” events to last a millennia. Investing has many parallels with the weather in that each day can look much like the previous until the summer sun is abruptly betrayed by the storms of Autumn. Many market forecasters and all-weather strategies were left looking embarrassingly wrong in 2022, betrayed by models that relied on historical data sets being a reliable predictor of the future, including the traditional 60/40 portfolio. At the risk of looking like Michael Fish in the 1980’s, Newton discusses what we should expect for the future and how we should prepare for the unexpected?

Learning Objectives:
Identify the drivers of UK inflation
Summarise the implication for fixed income
Describe the outlook for equities
